Holistic Veterinary Care

The following was a letter posted to our group by P4H's web designer and moderator. If you have a vet that meets this criteria, please write us and let us know. Thank you.

IF YOU PERSONALLY know or have a veterinarian who falls under the following criteria, could you please forward their names and city/state to me? We're collecting information to form a list of GOOD holistic veterinarians that we can trust as worthy recommendations for people needing assistance finding a reliable holistic veterinarian.
1. Does not suggest vaccinating animals; understands the risks and dangers of vaccinating and informs their clients of such risks. *May* be found to recommend homeopathic nosode treatment as an alternative to vaccines for clients who insist on "some" kind of extra protection.
2. Estimated 80% or better of their entire practice is holistic healthcare. These holistic veterinarians operate most of their practice as natural healing modalities including at least 2 of the following but not limited to: acupuncture, chiropractor, homeopathic treatment (clinical, classical, heilkunst etc), Reiki, natural diet consultation, Chinese medicine, Western Herbs, + more.
3. Does NOT SELL typical foods such as Eukanuba, Science Diet etc. in their clinic; recommends a raw diet first; a home cooked diet as a 2nd choice; recommends a top quality human grade pet food as a last resort if home diets cannot be prepared.
All 3 of these are important. A vet practicing one criteria alone will not suffice - there's no reason to send recommendations for vets who have not opened their eyes to these concerns on animal health care. Please don't bother wasting time posting the "alternative" and "homeopathic" veterinary listing websites. I'm already aware of these lists and how deceiving they can be. Here is a list of some questions one of our clients has used as a guide when selecting her veterinarian. We have added little to it. We do pay for our services and have the right to be very selective when chosing a vet for our animals.
1) What is your vaccination policy?
2) What percentage of your practice is holistic?
3) What are your business days and hours?
4) How do we contact you in event of an emergency?
5) In the event of emergency, is it possible to have a walk-in appointment?
6) What is your recommended diet for toy (or whatever type you have) breed dog?
7) How will you work with my conventional vet?
8) In the event that you are out of town or on vacation, is there any Holistic Vet that you can recommend as a backup?

This query list should also apply to a conventional vet. And so the following questions are added.

9) Are you opposed to allowing me to stay with my animal if he/she is sick? And, will I be allowed in the back of your office to see any proceedures being done?
10) Will you respect the fact that I feed my animal non-commercial foods and use alternative's such as herbs, homeopathy and supplements when possible?
